MAKE THE MOST OUT OF HOT TUBS AND WINTER SPA PACKAGES
Be sure to wear a hat
In order to keep your hair dry, wear a hat if you have long hair. This helps you maintain your body temperature in the hot tub and keep you from getting chilled. You can lose as much as 70% of your body heat through the top of your head, so wearing a hat is not only important for keeping your hair dry. Make sure you’re warm and dry by slipping on your favorite ball cap, knitted hat, or fluffy double mackinaw.
Apply a facial moisturizer
Protect your face from the harsh winter winds that can quickly dry your skin with skin cream or hand lotion. The layer of moisturizer (or even sunscreen) helps to keep moisture locked in the skin. Additionally, it forms a protective barrier over your pores, reducing the absorption of spa chemicals at the surface of the water.
Put on slippers or sandals
As you walk to the spa, wear slippers or sandals to keep the spa clean and your feet dry and warm. During freezing temperatures, the surfaces around a spa can also be slippery, so wearing something on your feet can prevent you from becoming another slip-and-fall statistic.
Thermal Towels
Among the most popular spa accessories is a towel warmer, which is a favorite of many spa owners in cold weather. This is a small box or electric towel rack that keeps up to five towels warm and ready for use.
Benefits of Hot Tubs in Cold Weather
Exercising Made Easier
It can be hard to exercise in cold weather. There are temporarily no more simple running shoes to put on and go out for a run or hike. People who don’t wish to travel in snowstorms or on icy roads may find going to the gym even more difficult in Ontario winters.
The exercises you can do in your hot tub will help improve the tone of your muscles, weight management, and overall health. As a result of its buoyancy, water is a much easier place to exercise for your joints and muscles. Warm-up with yoga or a comfortable warm-up routine first, then end with a relaxing, post-workout massage.
Escape The Cold Weather
Fresh snow is a beautiful sight. When it’s cold and windy outside, it’s hard to enjoy the beauty of nature and the beauty of your surroundings unless you’re bundled up or watching from inside. You can still get cold and sick even when you have all the right winter gear. With their warm, jet-infused environments, hot tubs allow you to soak up the serenity of snowfall while maintaining a healthy immune system.
Words of Caution
Food and Drinks
Drink alcohol after using the spa, not before or during. Spirits can enhance the effects of hot water, causing overheating and drowsiness. Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy core body temperature by drinking plenty of cool water instead.
Broken glass and ceramic containers can leave shards that can hurt bare feet. Beverage and snack consumption in or around the spa should be done in shatter-resistant plastic bottles, cups, and plates. Hot tub trays prevent spillage into hot tubs by safely holding items.
Medical Concerns
Prescription drugs can cause dehydration, drowsiness, diminished heart rate, and other medical complications in hot water. Consult a physician before entering a spa to save yourself from any such instance while in the spa.
Check with a doctor before using a spa if you have health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
Water Temperature
Spend no more than 15 minutes soaking in the spa, but less time when the temperature is hotter. You should leave the spa if you experience dizziness and nausea.
With a floating thermometer, test your spa’s water independently from the controls.
Pregnancy
Pregnant women should exercise extreme caution when visiting spas. The body temperature will rise, and the baby inside your belly might not feel comfortable with fully submerging. Pregnant women should consult their doctor before entering a hot tub to avoid any complications.
